Ion Popescu was born in Valeni, Dambovita Romania in February 1944.
His first steps in his profession that he (nourished) practiced his entire life, were guided by the painters Vasile Blendea (Văleni, Dâmboviţa), Pantelimon Lică Fleşaru (Suslăneşti, Argeş) and Ion Diaconu (Râmnicu Vâlcea).
His painting courses began in Piteşti in the School of Folk Art, while being a member of the „Ioan Andreescu” artist group.
Subsequently, his iconography studies were completed at the School of Iconography and Restoration at the Romanian Patriarchy in Bucharest, having as a guide and mentor the church iconographer Elisabeta Ursu. Since then, Ion Popescu become recognized as an authorized religious mural painter by the Romanian Patriarchy (1988).
Besides religious paintings, Ion Popescu also worked on oil easel paintings and, over time, he participated in various individual and group exhibitions in both icons and paintings.
